Schell: IoT cloud for digital services through networked water fittings

The broad field of building automation offers great potential, particularly in the area of water supply: for example, to improve hygiene monitoring or facility management - especially in public or commercial buildings. In order to make the relevant information available, we have developed an IoT cloud for SCHELL Armaturen to monitor water fittings and the hygiene status, which also expands the portfolio with digital services.

Highlights of the project

IoT solution for Schell

Fulfilment of safety and hygiene requirements

The holistic IoT cloud environment enables SCHELL's customers to monitor and document the performance of necessary hygiene flushes, among other things, in order to fulfil their own obligation to provide evidence.

Expansion of the portfolio through digital services

In addition to hygiene monitoring, the data collected is used for other services such as recognising defects, anomalies in water consumption and maintenance requirements. This data is made available to customers in the form of monthly reports, for example.

Remote configuration and support

The IoT solution enables remote maintenance to be carried out as soon as the water management system is commissioned. Settings and configurations can be made centrally and are therefore easy to manage, even for a large number of buildings.

Our solution

The com2m Smart Product Platform serves as the basis for the centralised collection and analysis of locally generated data and thus the development of digital services.

adesso provided Schell with comprehensive support during development: we developed the technical concept, ensured the agile implementation of the cloud development as well as the operation and continuous further development of the IoT cloud solution.

In addition to the com2m Smart Product Platform, Microsoft Azure was used to implement the target architecture, as well as Angular as the front-end technology.

The customer

SCHELL GmbH & Co. KG Armaturen is now in its third generation of producing innovative and high-quality fittings for building services. Since 1932, SCHELL's products have been aimed at installation specialists, planners and architecture companies, as well as the building projects themselves.

The expansion of the high-quality product portfolio to include digital added value emphasises the innovation awareness of the 450-strong company.

Together with us, SCHELL has developed an intelligent water management system that continuously transmits usage data to a cloud via networked SCHELL water taps, thus ensuring the safety of drinking water hygiene in the water network.
